Preparing to go home

Mom called this morning at 7:30am. (Amazingly, I was already awake- and I can't complain...last week she called at 6:30 am and no, I was not awake!!) Anyways, we talked about how she's doing (coping), and about my preparations to get home. Direct words from mom:

"Don't bring too much stuff...if you need it, we can alway buy it."

Shopping?? Did she really say that I can just go shopping and just buy stuff?? Has she no idea what she's just said?? She is obviously still completely discombobulated from everything or there is no way in hell she would have suggested I just go shopping!!! I mean, this is the woman that usually remarks, "what? buying more stuff?" anytime I buy anything (even when it's needed!) And this is the woman that usually exclaims, "why are you buying more stuff? You don't need it!!"

AHA!!

I've figured it out!!

It's a ploy! She used the catch phrase, "need."

Mmmm-hmmmm...I see now.

Very tricky.

Because, in her book, I don't need anything more that about three shirts, one pair of pants and maybe two pairs of shoes, I shouldn't have to go shopping! AHA!! And I bet she thought I'd fall for it! Boy, oh boy, she almost had me!

However, over thirty years of experience on both sides, she should know it won't work! (MWAHAHAHAAAH!) TJMaxx is only 7 miles away. The Gardens Mall is only 8 miles away. The surf shop is only .5 miles away!! Target? 5 miles!! Oh, she doesn't stand a chance in convincing me not to go shopping!! HA!! I can just see it now...

"But Mom,(blink blink innocently) I needed that new (whatever...)! (blink blink again) You said I could go buy it if I needed it, no?"

Take 1

This is the result of today's playing around in the studio. It needs a bit of tweaking, but overall, not a bad start.

Never mind easy

The last assignment was not only photographic, but also a study in frustration, patience and perseverance. We worked over 50 hours in less than a week to get our 10 shots, but we got them. The next assignment shouldn't be quite as difficult since we've already worked through so many issues (not to mention that they are individual assignments and we won't have 4 differing opinions clashing.) The basic premise of the assignment is to take 4 shots of 4 different objects on this black glass or other reflective surface and at least two of the objects we photograph also have to be reflective (specular).

In photography, that is one of the trickiest scenarios...how to get a decent shot while controlling the highlights and reflections. Have you ever tried to take a picture of something behind glass, or even of something with a mirror in it and you get a huge glare because of the light (either daylight or flash?) When you see pictures of watches, cars, jewelry, sunglasses, even silverware, I can tell you that a lot of attention went into making that watch look just so, with the glints and sparkles where they accentuate the object. And that is our assignment.

Of course, I have to go and make things difficult for myself. I have these pair of fabulous black patent leather heels that I want to photograph-reflective black object on top of a reflective black background. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment apparently, but I am really excited about playing around with it and seeing what I can come up with. I have an image in my head; now I have to realize it.

First thing tomorrow morning, I'm heading to the studio, alone, to play and figure things out. It should be fun!
