some reminders for driving in south florida...

1. Don't forget your earphones. God forbid you actually hear anything going on outside the car.

2. Don't use your blinker. You don't want someone else on the road to know what you're planning. That gives them the advantage. Better to just switch lanes and surprise them. If you'd like, put your blinker on when you're already 3/4 in the other lane...after all, it's just good manners.

3. If you're on a motorcycle, forget about a helmet.  You're in Florida, the sunshine state! You want to feel the wind through your hair, you rebel you. And if you get in an accident and your brains get strewn across the road, it's a minor price to pay for freedom. Ditto for other protective gear and respective body parts. Hawaiian shirts and cotton shorts are way coooler!

4. Speaking of motorcycles, if you're in a car and you find yourself behind someone on a motorcycle, make sure that you get as close as you can without actually making physical contact.  This is a gentle reminder to get out of your way, the road is yours because, well, it just is.  And those rules about maintaining a certain distance for safety? Rubbish. Obviously, motorcycles are not cars; the rules don't apply. Quite frankly, those folks on motorcycles just shouldn't be in your way.

5. Last, but not least, if you drive a muscle or prestige car that you probably bought to compensate for other, ahem, shortcomings, make sure you zoom ahead of others, cut them off and then brake so at least you're not speeding too much. What is important here is that others respect your authori-tay and that you are ahead, even if it's less than a car length at the next red light.
